Behind the lively events such as the Hatsu Kotohira Festival, the Daruma market,
and the lucky rice cake tossing ceremony,
there exists this quiet, monthly prayer.
Festivals gain their true meaning through the steady accumulation of everyday faith.
Kotohira-sama was enshrined in this area during the Edo period and has remained here,
guarding the southwest side of the precincts through wartime air raids
and the Great Fire of Hachioji.
As a deity of protection from fire, misfortune, and calamity,
Kotohira-sama has long watched over people’s lives.
Koyasu Shrine is widely known as a shrine for safe childbirth in Tokyo,
